It's not a cafe specifically for vegans but surprisingly some of authetic Korean food they serve here is veganMostly Korean customers. The price is relatively cheap compared to downtown Seoul. Coffee is 50% off when you get a meal.
□ Fried potato dumplings with sweet and sour sauce
So excited to find out this dish! We went for a cold soybean noodle soup(kongguksoo) and found this unique dish on the menu. Haven't come across this dish anywhere else!
It's not too diffult to find mushroom version of sweet and sour pork in Chinese restaurant that provides vegan menu but this? Uh-uh No-no
The sauce used for sweet and sour pork is generously poured over fried potato dumplings. Potato dumplings/balls are called ong-simi which is Kangwon dialect in Korean of which literal meaning is bird's eggs as they look like a small bird's egg like quail's eggs. Potato ong-simi in this dish are flattened, lightly coated with batter and fried like sweet and sour pork. Ong-simi is made of potato powder hence the texture is a bit like tapioca pearls but softer in terms of chewiness.
□ Kong-guk-su(cold soybean noodle soup)
Nothing's like Kong-guk-su in summer
If you haven't had Kong-guk-su, how could I describe the taste It definitely doesn't taste like soy milk rather thicker and slight savoury note to it with a hint of nutty flavour but very silky smooth Here, they used buckwheat noodle instead of normal wheat flour. Buckwheat has a quality to cool down your body Kong-guk-su is a seasonal dish so try it if you haven't before this summer goes away!
□ 감자옹심이 탕수육
감자옹심이를 탕수육으로 만들다니! 콩국수 먹으러 갔다가 메뉴에서 옹심이 탕수육을 보고 냉큼 주문해보았다. 채식메뉴가 가능한 중식집에서는 대부분 고기대신 버섯을 사용하는데 주재료의 전환이 재밌었다. 사실 무얼 튀겨내던 탕수육 소스 그대로면 탕수육이라 부르는 건데 어찌 옹심이 탕수육은 이리 흔지 않은지?
여름에만 먹을 수 있는 메뉴 콩국수. 여름 끝물에 먹는 콩국수는 더 맛있다. 111년 만의 기록적인 더위를 버텨낸 내 몸과 마음을 담백한 콩국물로 다독인다.
