i think that kendrick lamar's next album will be his absolute most important and it's because of its placement in his discography. this next album will be following up DAMN., the best selling album of 2017 as well as kendrick's most radio friendly project. with all this mainstream exposure via radio play, much more of the average music listening audience has been exposed to kendrick's music. because of this, mainstream music listeners would be interested in hearing more of kendrick's music, perhaps to see if he'll make more of the commercial friendly music that's on DAMN. what Kendrick does on the next album will really determine how his career ends. if kendrick decides to make a new album similar to TPAB, or even an entirely experimental album filled with unconventional beats, then the new audience that Kendrick garnered from DAMN. will be surprised that Kendrick is able to make such unique music. they'd be accustomed to mainstream sounding kendrick, and because of this, perhaps they'd go and explore more of kendrick's past discography, discovering section 80, gkmc, and tpab. not only would a mainstream audience appreciate his music more, kendrick's hardcore fans will also appreciate the fact that kendrick is keeping his discography unique. now, if Kendrick decides to stick with the sounds of DAMN. on his new project, sure it'll be successful commercially, but like me and many others, i'd be slightly disappointed. kendrick already has the mainstream exposure that allows him to drop whatever he wants and a large amount of people will love it. he might as well go back and make experimental and creative music, since he doesn't have to worry about having little commercial success. these just my thoughts tho, let me know what you think Kendrick's next album might sound like.
