I met a legend this past weekend and I’d like to share a story with u.
When I first got started learning about cannabis for medical conditions, I wanted to help seniors. I had big dreams of helping this generation move past their fears and the stigma of using this plant for healing purposes. The poly-pharmacology problems I had witnessed firsthand with my own mom was heartbreaking and I thought working with other seniors was a way I could deal with the painful loss of my own mom. I thought if I could help others, I could begin to heal. ..
In early 2016, I had heard there was this amazing senior woman teaching other seniors about the medical properties of cannabis. So what did I do? Rather ignorant but hopeful, I went to Harborside and meet their Outreach Coordinator and asked him if I could be “their new Sue Taylor.” She had moved on by then and I thought, “Hey! Why not me?!” (Ya know, newbie to the industry, middle aged housewife in the burbs!!). Stupid? Silly? Yes! Of course, but I didn’t care how it sounded - I just knew she was one cool woman and I wanted to BE like Sue. ..
While Harborside didn’t exactly offer me a job, he gave me suggestions on how to be ‘like Sue.’ And I dove right in. I wrote and presented my first Cannabis 101 class for a group of Walnut Creek Lion’s Club seniors in early 2016. Soon thereafter I met another amazing woman, Carrie Tice, and joined the founding team at @octaviawellness1, a sales and consulting company helping seniors learn about and purchase safe, legal cannabis. Seniors, seniors everywhere! I was finally ‘like Sue’ and I still love working with seniors. ..
This weekend at #NCIA, I finally meet Sue and told her my story. Yeah, she laughed with me alrighty!
Sue was a big part of my vision for who I wanted to be in this industry and I have the utmost respect for her. This fall, she is opening her own dispensary @icann_berkeley in Berkeley, geared towards seniors. Congratulations on this great achievement, Sue! ..
May this new venture bring you much joy and wellness to all those who enter iCann Health Center and work with you. ..
Blessings, Sue. You remain my inspiration.
