The release date was November 18,1992, but it was on this Friday that "Malcolm X" came out. There's not too many memories one remembers from childhood, but for some reason, the release of Malcolm X is displayed vividly in my head. My brother and I would count the days for the release, and when the day finally came, my brother went and watched it with his friends. At first I was upset, but then I understood that I was only 7, and that I couldn't go with him and his 16 year old friends. I stayed home, unable to sleep, I kept looking out the window for my brother to come home. I was truly excited to hear his review on the film. (Youngins, Back then we only had two thumbs up on a Sunday at 630pm, two days AFTER the release of films, -so you weren't sure if the film was good or not prior to going. You guys are blessed with RT/imdb). So I waited, and my brother finally came home around midnight. As he walked in I asked him how it was. My brother made me keep my voice down cause my mom was asleep, but he realized how badly I wanted to see it cause of my love for Spike. so he woke up my mom to tell her, not ask, that he's taking me to watch it the next day. That's when I knew the movie was good. I remember not being able to sleep that night. I seriously don't know why I loved Spike Lee as much as I did at 7, But I did. (I still, really, really do.) And the next day came and we went. My first ever Spike Lee film in theaters! I was hoping to see Spike there. He wasn't there. Why would he be? I was a dumb 7 year old. Anyways... Watched the movie. 3.5 hours later, i walked out with this powerful emotion, just like the kids at the end of the film and Nelson Mandela, - I remember walking out, looking at my brother and putting my fist in the air, and loudly with pride, i said, "I am Malcolm X!" An elderly black man looked at me, laughed and asked me to say it again.. and I did, "I am Malcom X!" he gave me a fist bump and rubbed my head, smiled and walked away.// I have no clue why I remember all of this, but for this memory, @officialspikelee , I thank you.
