Mid-Major Player of the Year:
A. Tyler Hall, Guard, Junior, Montana State
Last year, Hall averaged 23.1 points per game and shot 42 percent from behind the arc while committing only two turnovers per game. Hall was the leading scorer and rebounder for the Bobcats in both his freshman and sophomore seasons. In his two years at the program, he has improved the team’s record from 7-23 to 16-16 with an 11-7 record in conference. The big test for Hall will be if he can take Montana State to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1996.
B. Mike Daum, Forward, South Dakota State
South Dakota State’s Mike Daum could quite possibly lead college basketball in scoring this season. The 6-foot-9 forward’s combination of efficient post play and lethal perimeter shooting is almost unstoppable at the mid-major level. He should eclipse the 25.1 points per game he averaged last year and perhaps make a run at the 30-point mark.
