Yesterday I tested my ability to run above 11,000 feet & it was quite the adventure. I planned to run only 7 miles on a carefully planned out route, but the weather in the Colorado mountains had other plans. Instead of running from Summit Lake to Mt Bierstadt via Mt Evans & back, thunderstorms forced me to start at the Mt Evans gate. From there I ran to Summit Lake via the shoulder of Mt Evans road. Then from Summit Lake to Chicago Lakes via the gnarliest ridge trail ever. Then I ran down to Idaho Springs Reservoir, then back over to Echo Lake, and finally back to my car. I covered 17.7M all above 11,000 ft and most above 13,000. I finished with a 9:46/M pace. I only carried 20 oz of water with me & didn't eat anything during my nearly 3 hr trail run adventure.
