Recently I heard a rumor that plans are being made to tear down the historic State Palace theatre and build a hotel in its place. If true, then it would be a great shame! It was built back in 1926 and was host to some of the biggest names in entertainment at the time. Sadly, it was severely flooded during Katrina and even though it's been used periodically since then, it's mainly been sitting there rotting away. Demolition by neglect is what I like to call it. This theatre, like many other theaters in New Orleans, played a very important role in developing the art and culture of the city. It will definitely be a great shame to see it go.
