Graham is an Ugandan LGBTQI+ #refugee living in the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya. Even in the harsh conditions of the camp, #LGBTQI+ refugees are targeted for their gender identity or sexual orientation. Ugandan refugees are assumed to be gay or trans and are specifically targeted for this reason.

@WhereLoveisIllegal is in Kenya, documenting and sharing stories of LGBTQI+ refugees who have fled persecution and violence in their home countries only to find the same attitudes in Kenya.

Nature Network is an organization helping LGBTQI+ refugees in Kenya. They were gracious enough to host @whereloveisillegal, @hammond_robin, @shannon_sanders & myself last week as we made pictures, conducted interviews, lead a workshop & hung out with their incredible member!

Tasha (@koraz333) and Beyonce(@beyonce_maxjo44) were already best friends in Uganda before arriving in Kenya as LGBTQI+ refugees. Although they fled their home country separately, they found each other again in Nairobi. Wherever you find one, the other is close by.

Isabella & Bashir sing a song Bashir wrote about his life. After surviving a homophobic attack that left him in a coma for two weeks, Bashir, a gay man, fled #Uganda and arrived in #Kenyaas an LGBTQI+ refugee. In Kenya he met Isabella, a transgender woman and fellow refugee, and they fell in love.
