Ah thank you so much to everyone who has nabbed an original drawing from my solo show at @lightgreyartlab There are just two small studies left in the series of eleven still lives, and this lil babe in the center is one of them! This is a special piece in the series for me. During my two week artist residency at the @wrangellmountainscenter I had the chance to go on a backcountry overnight camp with two badass park rangers. The hike out involved crossing glaciers and bushwhacking into a part of the park where grizzlies had been seen the day before. At one of our stops for water, I spotted a bunch of slow moving gentle freshwater snails. Not wanting to remove any of the shells from where they lay, I snapped a photo of one for a still life later. That little shell is the only object in the whole still life series that was imagined into place - everything else was posed in my studio and drawn from life before being returned outdoors to decompose. UPDATE - this one sold, but the very last study from the series (that I will feature here soon) is still available via the @lightgreyartlab website, or in person at their Minneapolis gallery.
