So, yesterday, we went out again, this time to a community at Etim Ekpo. The trio of us @ceciliaessien @emikanem plus a driver that shares my first name, arrived and were received like celebrities...man, how do those people cope with millions of eyes on them, watching their every move... I digress...
Anyway, our aim was to visit a cottage industry owned by one of our trainees, Mr. Church (that's really his name), who won seed fund on the Umbrella Business Quest.
We were seriously impressed with the set up. Church uses his father's compound at the village as his factory and produces blackboard chalk, toilet and washing soap, filler, scouring powder and a host of other household products which he sells at more than three local government areas including Uyo. There are challenges which we took note of and I personally hope wealthy Akwa Ibomites will start investing in viable 'Made in Akwa Ibom' businesses. Wealthy non Akwa Ibomites are highly welcomed too!
I was the paparazzi, as you can see. And if you find Etim Ekpo in one of my future novels, don't be surprised. It's always a double for me...work and research.
Till the next community...Ciao!
