J.Roy Lewis is a retired veteran teacher of theatre. His drama troupes have garnered awards from regional, state, and international competitions which included the state of Georgia, the Southeastern United States, New York, and the International Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. His last appearance was the role of Fagin in Oliver for the Augusta Players. He has directed and appeared in productions for Fort Gordon Dinner Theatre, Story Land Theatre and Le Chat Noir. His Favorite roles include Gomez in The Addams Family, Monsieur Thénardier, the Innkeeper in Les Miserables, and Zsa Zsa in La Cage Aux Folles. His Fort Gordon production of “Dont Dress For Dinner,” won the Georgia Theatre community festival and represented Georgia at the Southeastern Theatre Conference in March, 2018. He has been recognized by the Georgia Theatre Conference, Georgia Thespian Halls of Fame, and the Greater Augusta Arts Council. He serves as the treasurer for the Executive board of the Georgia Theatre Conference. March, 2019 he will serve as on a panel for the Kenny Leon True Colors Foundation that will discuss “color blind casting,” in community and school theatre. Currently he serves as the Artistic Director for the Augusta Jr. Players, and a guide on the Augusta Canal. In his spare time he plans to work at Waffle House and be an Uber driver, so there.
