Photo by @FransLanting A ribbon of water winds across dry plains surrounding Botswana’s Okavango Delta as morning mist shrouds the contours of the landscape. The delta is an intricate tapestry of dry land and wet land, with ever shifting boundaries defined by the ebb and flow of water. Fed by a river that begins a thousand miles away in the highlands of Angola, the delta spreads out across the Kalahari Desert sands of northern Botswana. The miracle of water in the desert attracts multitudes of animals from antelopes to elephants. The delta became a World Heritage Site in 2014, but its future is by no means secure. Read the story in the November issue of @NatGeo to learn more. This image is featured in our new book, “Into Africa,” which is based on our National Geographic exhibition, also entitled “Into Africa,” currently on display at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History through October 22. Rowers practicing one winter morning on a river.

“At first, I thought it was a water strider, but later realized it was bunch of rowers practicing. I loved the synchronized ripples, sense of movement and direction, and the morning mist in the image. Cutting out the sun from the frame works well keeping the entire attention on the silhouetted subject. Beautiful image!” — @natgeo Photographer & Explorer Prasenjeet Yadav (@prasen88)

Brittney Beadle (@brittneybeadle) does not put off anything for tomorrow. “Do it now,” she advises. “Live in the moment and enjoy your life.” In May 2015, Brittney was diagnosed with metastatic (stage 4) breast cancer, at the age of 18. “I felt I was alone,” Brittney says. “There are some young women in their 20s who I found, but still no one who was “my age” young, with breast cancer.”
By sharing her journey, she hopes to help others in a similar position. “Whenever I have to go through a new treatment that’s really hard — like when I had radiation to my brain — I think, ‘OK. Yes, this sucks. I have to do this. But you know what? I get to live.’” #BreastCancerAwareness

I’ve been quiet on Instagram the last several days because I’ve been very sick. I’m in Salta, Argentina and I came down with a very bad cold when I was in Patagonia. I was caught out in the rain while hiking on a glacier. Toss in the cold temperatures and high winds and viola!……sick.

I’m attending the Adventure Travel World Summit here in Salta and when not at the event, I’ve spent almost all my time in my hotel room sleeping and trying to recover.

End result? Not a lot of activity on Instagram.

I’m feeling much better now, however. Still have a bit of a cough, but other than that, the major symptoms are gone.

I’m here in Salta for 3 more nights and then I head back to US. I’ll be home in Minneapolis for 6 days before I head to Portland, Oregon for another conference. After that I head to London for what I hope will be my last big conference of the year. If you are in Portland or London, let me know if you’d like to meet up.

Nothing like hiking the Swiss alps in the middle of the night and getting lost for 4hrs w/ iPhone flashlights to lead the way and still managing to end up here 5 min before sunrise 🌄 Thanks to my brother @linomeoli for following me on this amazing Swiss adventure, wouldn't have been the same without you fam. Tip: If you plan to hike from Zermatt to Stellisee for sunrise do not follow the google maps🚶🏽directions!!! Prob a bad idea for any hike 😅

Hydra by night. A perfect long weekend getaway. In mid-September, the heat backs off and the water is still warm. A long trek or two gives good coverage of the island. Food is excellent, especially if fish and seafood are your thing and you don't mind feta, local cheeses, and Greek wine. Throw in an afternoon boat ride along the southwestern shore, a few dips in the Gulf of Hydra, some late afternoon strolls and a lie-in or two and you'll have the makings for a perfect shoulder/mid-season break.
