When training your core, it's sometimes easy to forget the obliques.
~
To fully respect the obliques, unilateral weight bearing exercises such as these should be incorporated somewhere in your weekly routine:
~
* 1 arm deadlift
~
* Suitcase carry
~
* 1 arm sled pull
~
Well developed and strong obliques are key to back health and posture on the whole. Conditioning the obliques can also help prevent lower back pain and eventual injury.
~
An oblique specific exercise I find works for me is the Hanging Oblique Knee Raise.
~
Here's how it's done:
~
* Grip the pull up bar, with your hands roughly shoulder width apart.
~
* Begin with your body straight and knees together.
~
* Flex your hips and knees to bring your legs upwards. Then pull the knees to one side up above 90 degrees at the hip.
~
* Make sure to avoid using any momentum or swinging - keep each stage of the movement under complete control.
~
* Bring back to the starting position and repeat on the other side - alternate for the desired repetitions.
~

HOME WORKOUT.... Featuring a towel!

Two in one, exercise and clean the floor at the same time 🀣

Here are a few ideas if you can’t get out of the house to go to the gym or you don’t have access to any equipment. Maybe you’re traveling or you have kids at home but you still want to spice up your body weight workouts.
All you need is 2 towels and a little bit of floor space, simple as that! Let me know what you think! πŸ™ƒπŸ™ƒπŸ™ƒ

Pike and knee tuck
Drag your feet in bringing your knees towards your chest. Make sure your shoulders stay forward over your hands. Then fold yourself in half, legs straight whilst bringing your feet to your hands for your pike. Keep your tummy tucked in to keep your core engaged.

Mountain climber combo
Two towels one on each foot. Open and close into a star with your legs. Mountain climbers followed by a push up for a further challenge. Can drop to your knees when doing your push up for a regression. The slower the mountain climbers the more core engagement and control, but to raise the heart rate speed them up!

Lunge combo
Staying on the same leg for one set. Slide back for a reverse lunge, a side lunge and a forward lunge continuously. Repeat on the other side after the time is up.
πŸ–€
Push up slide
This one is challenging but if you’ve got the strength come up onto your toes to make I harder. Hold down in your push up extend one arm out and bring it back in before you press up. Alternating sides using one towel in each arm.
πŸ–€
For this workout go for time
1 minute of each exercise but rest if you can’t complete the minute continuously.
3-4 sets depending on how much time you have and how fatigued you feel
5m each set because the lunges take 2m one minute each side.
This little workout will only take you 15-20m depending how many sets you do. A nice quick sweat sesh!

Last weekend I trained legs differently to how I usually do and it’s two days later and MY LEGS πŸ˜…
Usually I do 1-2 (sometimes even 3 if I’m really feeling it) compound movements in my workout, reps ranging from 8-12x4. Then I’ll move onto accessory movements reps 12-15x4. This time I did one compound movement 4 x4 and then a mix of pumper movements with more reps less sets. I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel after but I definitely think it was effective! The compound exercise is the main movement of the workout since I really challenge myself with the weight- it takes a lot of strength that I have to mentally prep myself before πŸ˜‚ Try it out as it good to mix up your reps and sets from time to time to work different muscles!
Workout:
1️⃣ RDL Deadlifts 4x4 (Make sure form is correct and you’re lifting heavy so you can only do 3-4 reps. Keep back straight!)
2️⃣ Constant tension goblet dumbbell squats 15x3
3️⃣ Knee banded body weight hip thrusts 30x2
4️⃣ Cable kickbacks 12x3
5️⃣ Lateral band walk with dumbbell 30x3 (15 each side)
6️⃣ Hip abductions 15x3

Burner/ HIIT on stepper 30 secs x4 with 1 min break in-between 1 circuit. πŸ’₯ Side to side jumps πŸ’₯ Alternate jumping lunges on stepper πŸ’₯ Bunny jumps across stepper πŸ’₯ Squat walks and jump off box
