This morning I was enlightened to the interesting world of IASTM (instrument assisted soft tissue massage) at the #rockblades0818 course.
I was reminded about the incredible tissue we have throughout our whole body; fascia, and how manipulating one area of the body can effect your muscles/fascia all the way up the line. For example, just by massaging the bottom of my feet (stimulating the nervous system to change) improved my toe touch by quite a lot, didn't have 'release' the hamstrings or back to create a change.
Also I learnt was that it takes at least 8 months to create permanent change to the cellular structure of the fascia. So consistancy is key, there's no such thing as a quick fix! #fybfitness#rockblades#consistencyiskey

I can let you in on a little secret about how courage works.
Courage isn’t something that strikes like lightning.
Courage isn’t something that courageous people walk around with ALL THE TIME.
Courage is something that hits us and lasts for no longer than fifteen minutes.
We hit a POINT and DECIDE NOW is the time to Step Up and STOP PLAYING SMALL.
If we don’t take action, nothing changes, and we go back to a story of ‘I just need more courage’ OR ‘I wish I could be sure of what to do.’ So what’s something that if you had fifteen minutes of courage, you would take action on?
And what is it you could do TODAY to move you in that direction?
A full day to myself. Not that I have anything to keep me busy from having me-time today, or like, any day! Yet we tend to keep ourselves busy with stuff that’s not essential. Not urgent. We like to distract ourselves. But conciously taking time to do exactly what you feel like doing, is precious. Make list of things you do daily. Then make a list of things you LOVE to do. Compare. It is the ’white space’ that you schedule for yourself to do or NOT do. And that’s what leads to creativity, happiness, openness. It leads to clear headspace. #tomeditateornottomeditate

Overhead step up slides to strengthen the deep overhead squats. This is an advanced version but we are heading this way with a lot of my clients after only some weeks of working with increasing mobility and strength. Glutes and hip flexors needed some after-care (stretching and releasing) but it’s good to see the progress, getting strong through the whole range of motion.

I can feel it. Anyone else? 🤟🏼 Last weekend of winter sports which is Rugby and AFL for us.. I’m kinda doing a happy dance for some sport free mornings but they are Super super bummed about it!! I’m so proud though because they have become so committed to their teams and love it so much. We are looking forward to joining the surf club in spring and frothing around the ocean again on weekends but first a little break and some weekends away together. The boys grew up in the pool from 6months of age in Singapore and swam in a pool almost every day, so Surf Club will be a first for them. .

One of our favourite swing ladders is heavy swings for 5 reps on the minute for 10 mins- but.. the last set of swings 10 reps.
Start your swings with a weight you find manageable then increase the bell size each round until round 6. Stay with this weight until round 10, then instead of 5 reps swing the bell for 10 reps on the last minute.
The golden rule when it comes to swings: Trust the thrust!!

Back squats for Cowboy Friday, like one of my client has named it. She’s doing sessions throughout the week but apparently on Fridays I add a twist or two onto her program so that she gets sore muscles for the weekend
Today I added the twists not only on her program but mine as well and these squats were followed by 16-and-a-bit-minute workout of the day. Give it a go!
