(near) WASHINGTON, DC: This is 14 year old Hopper's fifth post on SSD in five months. We first shared his story back in February when a very dedicated volunteer contacted SSD for help. Hopper has been at the shelter for NINE YEARS. There's been some criticism to his long stay, but considering nobody has stepped forward even now with all the exposure from SSD, social media, etc...well, that speaks volumes alone. There are so many frustrating factors, but the short of it is that Hopper is the only one bearing the burden of his story. It's hard to keep positive, but we will keep trying! PLEASE SHARE! A shelter volunteer wrote, "Unfortunately, Hopper has still not had any serious prospects. We even had a local news station share it, but nothing came of it. :( Hopper was found as a stray in 2004. He was soon adopted to a family and he thought he had found his happily ever after, but a few years later he was returned through no fault of his own. He is a friendly and affectionate boy who wants nothing more than to love and be loved. He doesn’t want to share his affection with other dogs so would do best as the only pet at home. He knows basic commands and easily steps into his harness! He loves treats and we think has one of the best smiles around!
Hopper is part of our Senior Care Program, so his adoption fee is waived and he is eligible for up to $1500 in medical expenses! We can't go more than 2-3 hours outside of our adoption area around DC. We want an adopter to be close enough should things not work out. After living in a shelter environment for so long, we worry people won't take the time to let him adjust to a home." (The good news is that Hopper's exposure led to another long-term resident getting adopted, one who had been at the shelter almost 5 years!!) To adopt Hopper, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to submit your application.
