There are around 80 lions living here on property and they’re all beautiful and unique in their own way. But there is one single lion that definitely has won my heart and I consider him to be my very favorite one: Nigel, the 8 months old male is living in a separate pen, living together with a few similar aged white lions. I love brown lions much more than white ones, their fur is much softer and I just like the coloring much more. Nigel is right in that sweet age between a cute cub and a strong adult, sure to become a great Lion King, leading his own pride some day.
We’re usually not allowed to go inside this enclosure, but this morning, we had some cleanup work to do there and our guides quickly saw these lions behaving calm and nicely today, allowing me to make my dream come true and not only go into the pen, but also pet Nigel several times! Wow! What a sweet, strong cat he already is! He’d be strong enough to hurt me severly, but he felt so comfortable that at one point he even rolled over, all 4 paws into the air, demanding belly rubs like a house cat! This encounter definitely is my favorite one during our first 8 days here. Everyone can pet cubs, but being able to touch and interact with adolescent lions is something only very few people ever get to do. It’s such a privilege to experience these magical moments! Love you, Nigel!❤️❤️❤️🦁❤️❤️❤️ #lion #lions #southafrica #lionandsafaripark #africanlion #africa #adolescentlion
