Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. We know this part. “After the Fall,” by Dan Santat, deals with his struggles when the poem ends. As a result of his fall, Humpty is fearful and broken, and also struggling with the loss of his favorite activity - bird-watching on top of the wall. This gorgeously illustrated book is about Humpty’s struggle with fear as he decides how to move forward. The ending is a surprise and well worth it. This is a good book for a child that struggles after a hurt, whether from falling off a bike, failing a spelling test, or something much bigger. “After the Fall” is ultimately a story about hope.
