LOVE. “You’re so brave, but can you also be soft?”
“What the fuck are you talking about?? What’s wrong with being brave?”
“Bravery is powerful, as it gets you through challenging times, moves you through fears, helps you accomplish that which you desire. Sometimes we need to pretend to be brave. And sometimes pretending to be brave only causes incongruency to our experience, contraction in the body, separateness from others, and energy to get stuck from flowing easily though the body.”
Fascinating to think how often we ‘fake it til we make it’ and a reminder that this isn’t necessarily a black/white concept.
To be brave IS amazing.
I just flew to Thailand to live here for a mon h without knowing anyone or anything!
AND on the day of my departure, I recorded a video to my friend group in tears talking about how scared and alone I was actually feeling about it.
And the responses I received from them filled my heart.
Bravery isn’t necessarily “I have to process this in my mind alone and then share my revelation and vulnerability after the fact.”
It isn’t “I’m going to suppress the feelings and just move forward into the uncertainty.”
It isn’t convincing yourself that your feelings are wrong and rationalizing that “I’m ok I’m safe this is fine I’m fine.”
There can be softness in your bravery.
There is bravery in your softness.
They don’t need to exist mutually exclusive.
Yet if you try to do your work only in the confines of your own mind and journal, then you may be missing an entire valuable portion of the work.
To be soft is not weak.
What’s weak is your body as it exhausts from the constant contraction of clenching in your gut from trying to control, suppress, ignore, bust through, keep going, and ignoring or minimizing your internal process. “But Dr Cat, I’ve worked so fucking hard to let go. I am vulnerable. I do cry. I do tell people what I’m feeling.”
Great, babes. But I bet there are more layers of letting go you can reach.
Be brave, of course. But be soft and in your truth.
Let others see you.
