Royal Show 2018 The work for a show begins months before, picking out the animals which are the best examples of the breed. In the coming weeks beforehand, hours are spent getting the cows used to walking on a halter, pampering and preening until finally ... it’s show day.
Up with the larks! The cattle wagon will be here soon, time to get the girls in from the field and on the road, leaving the relief milker to look after the rest of the herd.
Under the judge’s eye, who will take the red rosette? If you come last, was it really worth getting out of bed? Agricultural shows certainly do bring highs and lows, ‘‘tis the nature of the beast. The feeling of bringing home the big cups, really just can’t be beat.
Yet! It’s the chance to have a yarn and a laugh with your neighbor. A cup of tea, a bacon bap and the taste of farming community. Bring on Show Season 2019!
Many thanks to Tracey's pictures for the brilliant photography.
