As witches, we have the power to render any object a potent amulet (a protective object) or talisman (an object that draws energy, especially luck.) An object made of natural material -such as metal, stone, wood, fiber, or plant matter- possesses an inherent energy that we can align to our purpose (magickal goal.) That natural energy is better suited to specific uses, based upon the archetypal energy of that object and what the very real and autonomous spirit within that object says that it is willing to help with. Natural materials are also better at holding an energetic charge as manmade objects (plastic, glass, etc.) seem to leach energy faster.
Through the use of physical transformation and aligning that inherent energy to our goal, something as simple as a carved root or painted stone can become a potent amulet to guard a sleeping child or powerful talisman to aid in Otherworld travel. To charge such an object you’ve created, hold it in between your hands and focus on your goal. Gather that energy which suits that goal and *push* it into the object. Keep the flow of energy going until it will no longer flow. It is done.
Of course, there are natural objects -such as stones with natural holes in them or natural marking in the shape of runes, symbols, or even words- that intrinsically suit the purpose of a magickal object. The witch would do well to seek these out, recognize them when found, and cherish them.
