Posts for the next 12 days will most likely only be of food. Please be sympathetic to our plight. We have mere days left in Asia.
Yaskushima is a dream land, and fittingly, you will eat food composed of magic.
Before sleeping in the van next to the beach while a wild rainstorm whirled about us, we went for sushi.
First we had to try the grilled flying fish as it is a specialty. Also, flying fish are really amazing to watch.
The meat of the fish was very dense. I thought it had a stronger flavor that reminded me a bit of a light mackerel. There were lots of bones, but we happy to have tried it.
We should have ordered two of the next dish. It was amazing. Fresh fish and roe with a soft chewy mouth feel and then the firmer texture of sushi rice. I could eat this every single day for the rest of my life.
Don’t tell Avner, but I would totally add avocado.
