The Lamar Valley has been called "the Serengeti of North America," and rightfully so, as wildlife are very abundant here (can you spot the bison herd?). Now consider that plains bison used to number 30 million in North America, prior to European arrival. The Serengeti of North America used to be MASSIVE, and exponentially larger than the Lamar Valley. So now it's places like this that have far more beauty than solely just at face value (which is still pretty darn beautiful), given what they represent in historical and ecological context.
