I don’t usually talk much about this part of my life but feel that it’s important to spread the message of how important our health service is. Today is the day of the week where I go to collect my medication from the pharmacy and sort out my dosages for the next 7 days. My life before meds was very chaotic and draining. This medication keeps me healthy both physically and mentally and helps keep my conditions under control, it has changed my life and that is all thanks to our amazing NHS, unless you rely on it 24/7 you may take it for granted and may not fully understand how important it is and how lucky we are to have free healthcare. I’ve gone dark for months now. I’ve been told I have Anaemia and it it feels exactly like the life has been sucked out of me. I know I’m not the only one who has descended into the underworld with the celestial upheavals, but each of us journeys solo of course. This Winter has felt somewhat like these brave sailors that circumnavigate the world totally alone, with no one to witness their tears, no one to hear their anxious fear, no one to project blame onto when they fuck up. So That’s perfect. Ive just sat in my bad mood, my shadow and my depleted physical state and actually loved it. I’m fortunate that I have a very accepting loving person I live with so I feel free to be in all states of being. Pouring love without condition into my sad and sore spots has, I believe helped the flow into health and move away from any judgement.

What is this very sharp pain in my leg? I’m not sure I like it much. A lively #saturdaymorning #longrun turned into a slow and steady #10k after picking up something in my right #quad when going up a (reasonably) big hill. I’m booked to have my #blood upgraded again on Wednesday so it could a sign of #anaemia setting in or it could be I didn’t #cooldown properly the other night. How important is iron during pregnancy? Studies have shown that iron deficiency in pregnancy can lead to preterm birth, low birthweight babies, and increases the risk of perinatal mortality (stillborn infants). However, the same outcomes occur when iron levels are high, making it extremely important to check your iron levels before conception. If you are found to have low or close to low levels of iron/iron stores (ferritin) then you should begin increasing your intake of iron rich foods or start supplementation. If your levels are adequate, there is no need for supplementation until approximately the third trimester. If your levels are high then you should be tested for haemochromatosis, and avoid supplements containing iron as well as iron rich foods (particularly red meat). Although babies born to anaemic mothers show little to no signs of anaemia themselves, studies show an increased risk of developmental difficulties involving cognitive, social-emotional, and adaptive functions. Maternal iron levels are also depleted by breastmilk production, increasing the demand for an iron rich diet and/or supplementation after childbirth. Adequate iron levels in the Mother at time of birth will also prevent severe fatigue during labour, and excessive blood loss after delivery, as well as aiding recovery and preventing postpartum depression and poor cognitive function. Foods high in iron include all meats (especially red meat and organ meat), cooked dark leafy green vegetables, beans, lentils, chickpeas, peas, whole grains, nuts and seeds (especially pepitas). To increase absorption of dietary iron, combine these foods with foods high in vitamin C. Chopping for the kid's tuna chilli dinner tonight. That's my own garlic from the garden vegetable plot, I like a bit of fresh garlic in chilli.

🦋 ANAEMIA update. It’s been one month since I was discharged from hospital. The first photo was taken yesterday. The second photo was taken three days after I left hospital. It’s scared me to compare these pictures. I can’t believe how much of a difference there is in my face... I know Prednisolone steroids have made ‘moon face’ appear in the last week or so and it’s clear how much hair I’ve lost but I still feel like I look so much more healthy now! If I needed proof that I was kicking anaemia in to touch... here it is. This has shocked me massively but there was no question about whether to share it or not. Hope this demonstrates part of the reality of chronic illness and another way in which IBD can affect the body (I became anaemic as a direct result of IBD). Feel like I’m gaining more self-confidence day by day and staying on the right path! Staying positive and continuing to fight this with everything I have. 😊💜

GOOD NEWS! 😊🦋 Found out from my GP this morning that my Haemoglobin levels are back up to 111! They should ideally be around 135 but I’m just glad I’m going in the right direction 🙌🏻 can’t believe they got as low as 67. So I am currently kicking my Anaemia well in to touch! Also my Kidney and Liver function are both ‘looking good’ which hopefully means that I’m tolerating Azathioprine quite well so far. It’s very strong medication and not the easiest drug to tolerate but I’m hoping it’s the one for me! So, started off this morning with good news and continuing the week with another positive! How is everybody doing today? Keep fighting warriors 💕💜

Quem é celíaco, provavelmente, deve ter passado pela situação no qual alguém fala que você poderia ter anorexia. Para aqueles que lutam com problemas intestinais, há um risco maior de desenvolver um relacionamento doentio com a comida.
As primeiras palavras da minha filha foram "cama" e "doente". Ela foi diagnosticada com doença celíaca aos 2 anos, após meses de vômitos, diarreia e perda de peso. Nós tivemos que começar a dizer a ela que as comidas favoritas e familiares agora eram "ruins" para ela. Eu me preocupei com as mensagens.

Com 15 anos, em uma viagem da escola de cinco dias, teve uma perda de peso de cinco quilos, porque não havia "comida segura" para ela comer. Como tantas mulheres jovens, Melanie descobriu que gostava do visual mais magro. Eu tentei não fazer disso um problema, confiando que, como a maioria de nós, a força de vontade da perda de peso desapareceria. Mas ainda assim, eu estava assombrada pelas mensagens iniciais.

O fato é que celíacos têm uma relação desconfortável com a comida. E provavelmente será uma batalha ao longo da vida. Antes do diagnóstico celíaco, a comida os deixava doentes. Após o diagnóstico, a comida ainda os deixa doentes, e a alimentação continua sendo um assunto de muito foco no seu cotidiano.
Isso é um terreno fértil para um distúrbio alimentar?

Aparentemente sim: um estudo sueco mostra taxas mais elevadas de anorexia nervosa (ou AN) em pacientes com doença celíaca em comparação com indivíduos controle.

Especificamente, descobriu-se que as pessoas com doença celíaca têm 4 a 5 vezes mais chances de ter um diagnóstico prévio de AN, e tem 2 vezes chances de combater a anorexia no futuro.

#sharemycycle day 2 has been all about catching the sunshine, feeling the warmth on my body and adopting the Spanish way of life, manyana manyana. I had a little nap just 30 mins this afternoon as I’m bleeding heavily and in the past I’ve ended up with anaemia as a result. Known as ‘flooding’ this can happen during peri-menopause and it’s so important to rest and eat nourishing foods. I had a little energy burst around 4pm got some painting jobs done and enjoyed a delicious evening meal in the garden. So I haven't been around a lot lately. I mostly post on my French account @choisirlebonheur but here's what's been going down: - Had major surgery to permanently solve my fibroid related issues and get my health back.
- Got an infection, then DVT, then a pulmonary embolism.
- Bounced back very quickly (thanks mindset, diet and #superfoods).
- Listened to the nudges : take time to heal / be grateful / the Universe has your back / you are not presented with anything you cannot handle / remember all you have worked on so far.
- Was overwhelmed by kind gestures, words and amazing support.

Now, the kids are on holiday and we are going to enjoy ourselves 😀

Haemoglobin levels aren't low enough for a transfusion but she's being kept in for observations and repeat bloods to monitor her. She was very lethargic on admittance and finding it difficult to stay awake. She has perked up a little bit so we had a play about with Snapchat filters.
The reason it's so difficult to treat Ava is because she was born with a rare blood disorder and she literally goes downhill in a matter of hours very rapidly which can result in a haemolytic crisis and her body can't recover without medical intervention.
All that can be done is to monitor her levels, sometimes they rise on their own and sometimes they don't. It can take weeks/months for her to get over a common cold because she basically has no immune system. A transfusion would perk her right back up again but under NHS guidelines they can't do it until it drops to a certain level which can mean multiple hospital admissions until that stage

DASTAK ABHIYAN LAUNCHED TO REDUCE CHILD MORTALITY⠀

Under this campaign, a joint team of ASHA, NNM and anganwadi workers will visit families with children under 5 years on July 31.⠀

The aim of the Dastak Abhiyan is quick management through active identification of major disorders in children below the age of five at the #community level, thereby reducing the desired reduction in #child #mortalityrate. ⠀
According to SRS-2016, the #deathrate among #children below five years in the state is 55 per 1000 live births. The main reasons behind these are child #diarrhea, pneumonia besides underlying causes like #malnutrition and #anaemia.⠀

It is noteworthy that 68.9 per cent of children in the state are anaemic and 9.2 per cent of the children are severely malnourished.⠀

It is possible to reduce the child mortality rate by approximately 22 per cent by adequate #breastfeeding. Despite 81 percent of women taking advantage of institutional delivery in the state, only 35 per cent #newborn #babies get the benefit of the mother’s first thick yellow milk.⠀
