Our intention was never to raise a lot of money. Our intention was to simply show him that he’s not alone on this journey. So what was initially a simple act of solidarity, became an amazing love-filled day with family. We cut enough hair to donate 130” to @angelhair4kids and @cancersociety and an unexpected $11,500 for @kidscancercare! The 7th top fundraising team of 2018!
We couldn’t plan a huge event; we can’t even make plans a few days in advance. With his chemo and weakened immune system, we didn’t even know if he’d be at the shave or if we’d be FaceTiming from home. So we kept it small: 16 shavers + 1 impromptu shave by an 8yo girl. Though it sounds like 17 shavers would be a huge event, it wasn’t. Twelve shavers are from our immediate families alone!
The girls had their hair professionally cut while the boys were attacked by tiny clipper-wielding humans. It was hilarious and chaotic but most importantly, it gave Colton the confidence to get his head shaved too! I didn’t think he could get any cuter, but he did and his bald head is perfect! I thought I would be sad to see him bald and that he would “look sick”, but he’s beautiful and HE had control over when he lost all his hair. Take that, cancer!
After the shave, someone said “I’ve never felt this good after losing so much!” It really did feel amazing. #baldisbeautiful #loved #family #shaveyourlidforakid #angelhairforkids #lightsoutforall #fuckcancer
