Anywhere, here is a purple sea star, or ochre sea star (they can also be orange) These sea stars are very common, but their well-being is crucial for the environment which they inhabit. They’ve been described by scientists as a ‘keystone species’ (a term which I’m sure lots of you will have a better understanding of than me!) and damage to their numbers appears to be us, namely people just nabbing them off the rocks. So now you know, leave the sea stars where you find them, please.
