‼️GRAPHIC PHOTOS INCLUDED‼️ This weekend has been a whirlwind of rescues, returns, pick ups, travel and clean ups. 4 important things happened.
Firstly, was the return to rescue of Poptart on Friday.
Poptart was adopted about a year and a half ago. She had been found abandoned in a humid apartment with no food or water when she was about 2-3 months old, and had been like that for approx. 4 days. She was literal skin and bones, and we didn't know if she would survive.
Through some recent events, we were made aware that her owners could no longer keep her, and Friday she was returned to us. Unfortunately, she was not returned in good condition. It was dark when we picked her up, and her cage was placed in the back seat of our vehicle. We noticed a very strong odor on the way home. We figured just a cage clean was needed.
Upon arriving at home, we saw the absolute filth and disgust that was her cage. She had nothing but a disposable puppy pee pad on a hard bottom cage, and it was caked with urine and feces. The litter box that contained her hay was disgusting. When we picked poor Poptart up to examine her, she was literally dripping with urine. Her entire backside and underside was soaked, her feet red, swollen and raw, and her fur a mess.
The first two photos are Poptart after her bath and spa day. She will see the vet tomorrow, as we believe she may have a UTI. We will also be doing an xray of her spine, as her owners had her spend time in a Guinea pig ball, which is EXTREMELY dangerous for a piggie's poor spine. We want to ensure there was no damage.
Humans have failed this poor piggie more than once, and we PROMISE Poptart, it won't happen again.
Welcome back to love sweet girl❤️
