A little bit of Behind the scenes... During the production of Moana, I got a shot where little Moana climbed down some steps. As animators we often shoot reference footage to try and get fresh ideas and nuances that might not occur to us otherwise. Since I’m not a toddler anymore, I asked my brother to film reference of my beautiful little niece. She was a little young to match the toddler Moana, but I fell in love with the little bounce she made when all her weight slid off of the bed and onto her feet.
As a plus, I liked the idea of my niece being a tiny part of Disney history. Alas, the shot didn’t make it into the final cut of the film, but it was still really fun to animate!
