A breeding male Palm Warbler was quite a treat for me today, actually several males were singing on territory and this was a completely new experience for me. Due to their northern range, which is almost entirely in Canada, they are one of the earliest migrants in the spring. I often miss them on their way north only to catch up with them in the fall when their plumage has changed to a much faded version of their spring splendor. I very much enjoyed listening to their trilling song, as they jockeyed for position on stunted spruce trees in a breathtakingly beautiful bog. I will most definitely be visiting them again.
