The amazing timber stair of Bespoke Renovation 8. This open timber stair, has a solid rail agains the plasterboard wall and vertical timber battens as the balustrade on the open side. This timber balustrade extends up into the first floor to continue acting as the balustrade on that level. Through the open french doors on the ground floor level we catch glimpses of the reading chair in the generously proportioned master suite. The dreamy sanctuary at the New Synagogue Dresden, also by Wandel Hoefer Lorch + Hirsch. Germany 1997. In researching this series, it’s become very clear that new synagogues are extremely rare. Perhaps due to a combination of the small global Jewish population, the large resources needed to build and the many small congregations that use existing resources like scout halls rather than build for themselves.
