60 “Berliner Dom“ oil on canvas

Hansaviertel consist out of several high flats. Each is designed by a famous architect like Egon Eiermann, who also designed the Famous Kaiser Wilhelm memorial church on Kudamm. Between every building there is a lot of green space. A unique place to visit.

Emotion! The Einsteinturm is the first important building designed by the architect Erich Mendelsohn (1919 to 1924). The tower is often called the "main example for architectual expressionism". Its overall design is very harmonic, however, and Mendelsohn's own perception oppose was different. The Einstein Tower is a functional building – a solar observatory. Until the second World War it was the most prominent research institution of that kind in Europe. The tower is therefore also an example for the very few connections between science and art, as Mendelsohn fulfilled the conditions for the scientific use as well as his own concepts of form.
According to lore, Mendelsohn took Einstein on a long tour of the completed structure, waiting for some sign of approval. The design, while logical and perfectly sufficient to its purpose, stood out like an "ungainly spaceship" in the suburbs of Potsdam. Einstein said nothing until hours later, during a meeting with the building committee, when he whispered his one-word judgment: "Organic". Mendelsohn himself said that he had designed it out of unknown urge, letting it emerge from "the mystique around Einstein's universe".

Haus der Kultur der Welt (1957) Hugh Stubbins. And 'Large divided Oval: Butterfly" (1986) Henry Moore.

In 1955, Hugh Stubbins started work on a design for a building that would soon become a remarkable landmark in the cityscape of post-war Berlin. Stubbins, who had been Gropius’s assistant at Harvard before the Second World War, was familiar with Germany. Wanting to make a statement on that conflict between the systems commonly referred to the Cold War, Stubbins planned a building with a hall to hold cultural events and congresses. It was intended to serve as a symbol and beacon of freedom with its message reaching the East too.

A glimpse of the ultra industrial Jewish museum. It is a bedazzeling complex of metal and concrete with a great number of complex details guiding the thoughts of the observer. Surprisingly it doesn't feel cold. #architecture#architectureberlin#jewishmuseum#daniellibeskind#contemporaryarchitecture#zincfacade#strollingaround

Wing in the sky atop GSW Headquarters. The building actually has a nice pinkish hue from colorful window blinds looking west wards. #architecture#berlin#architectureberlin#sauerbruchhuttonarchitects#walkingaroundberlin#skyscraper#buildingswithwings
