Allan Banford in Hong Kong
by Andrea Pompili
Powerfully and expressive paintings by ALLAN BANFORD, "aesthetically resilient" theoretically studded with elements that place themselves in an osmotic relationship between subconscious and reality. Allan belong to the "New European Painting" movement, founded in London at the beginning of the 21st century, does not prevent him from expressing himself through multiple mediums ranging from painting to installations, from video to music, in full and total freedom of expression.
In the tension of the division between the conscious and the real, Banford assumes the strong tradition of memory and applies it to the material practice of his technology. Here then is that in his paintings movements, characters, animals and objects emerge and crystallize. New emotional sequences that reveal an indissoluble relationship between movement and space. With a singular and conceptual approach, the artist molds his protologism in a scenario of multiple levels in which the user can perceive his "texturized" physical-mind message.
Allan Banford's work responds and graft directly into the surrounding space. Sometimes it is from the daily experiences that his subjects are born. Often, they are fragmented instants, syncopated frames that might go unnoticed in their original con-text but thanks to the transmutation of abstraction, in that particular tension of its "tearing" technique, everything becomes dancing and finds its precise movement which reveals that intrinsic peculiarity, in a conceptualization evoked and consistent with his style.
In Allan Banford's paintings we should not seek and dwell on the recognizability of forms because it is mostly in the channel-deconstruction that methodically the artist applies in his works that we can reach the widest extension of the motions of deep meanings. Every usual, logical interpretation becomes multifaceted in the constant questioning of the concept of space and perspective.
