Drew this during a really enjoyable talk with the Xfinity tech today- hearing about the work he does, the people and situations he encounters. It reminded me of an article I read about a woman working as a cable tech. Simple courtesies like being offered a bathroom or bottled water can change an entire day.
Brandon, the tech working with me, shared his experiences as a brown man in homes that celebrate division and prejudiced leaders. Still, he never stopped being gracious. He didn’t once said a hateful thing, although he could have. I know I wanted to.
So a day before we remember Martin Luther King Jr. and the importance of non-violent resistance, I want to humbly thank each fellow human who chooses to serve, not be silent about things that matter, and decides to stick with love.
I’m usually reminded of those three things right when I needed to hear them most, even if I didn’t know it. *bastille, my cat. also, relief of monarchical abuse and power.
