On Monday this week, we took a trip to see some of the service providers for Pinellas County’s most vulnerable citizens. I learned the difference between a shelter, transitional living and permanent subsidized housing. I was walked thru the waiting lists, shown the mats closet, compared personal property restrictions and mental health, rehab and education programs. We met some passionate and dedicated people, equal parts sharply realistic and full of hope.
We asked each of these organizations what they are looking for that most people don’t think of. Here is what they said:
1. Clean, sturdy men’s shoes sizes 9,10,11,12, and 13
2. Men’s pants size 30-34 waist, not 48.
3. Belts, same issue as above causes the need for belts
4. Backpacks, clean and sturdy. Carrying your stuff safely, comfortably and securely is a common problem.
We know that this time of year is filled with requests like this, but Strive would like to thank these organizations in Pinellas County for doing what they do. If you have any of these items you would like to donate, please call 727-204-3340 and we will arrange a way to get it. We will make sure they get to the people who asked for them. Again, these are real asks from real organizations your back yard.
Thank you for your generosity.
