Do we really have laws in Nigeria?
Adeyemi Ahmed Abiodun,
July 31, 2018
Some would find the question above amusing? Some would even find it
confusing? But this is a question we should really ask ourselves.
Since the inception of the present administration more than three
years ago, we have been treated to a show of flagrant disregard of
court orders. From Dasuki to El Zak Zaky, this government have thrown
court orders into the trash. This administration have shown blatant
disregard for the judiciary. I wonder if there are really separation
of powers as enshrined in the constitution.
The latest dragging of court judgements through the mud occurred on
June 26, 2018. Before June 26, on the 2nd of March, 2018, an Abuja
federal high court outlawed the Unified Tertiary Matriculation
Examination saying there were no extant laws authorising the exercise.
On 26 June, 2018, in the opening session of JAMB’s Policy Meeting, the
Minister of Education announced the conduct of this year's post utme.
One would expect aggrieved parties who are not contented with a court
ruling to appeal the judgement, but it appears that in Nigeria, one
man can decide to wave the courts away!
Now, most higher institutions across the country have rolled out post
utme registrations , most disguising it as pre-screening registration.
One wonders if the higher institutions too did not know of the court
injunction. Of course they did. But we can all decide to disobey the
courts, can't we? There is a shining example to follow.
The disregard for the rule of law is not native to the present
administration alone. The creation of post-utme was a fiat of an
uncle-upon -a-time minister of Education. I read that the minister
complained that the JAMB scores did not correspond with the school
performance of the students.
So I ask again, do we really have laws? Be the judge... #nigerian #naija #buhari #naijafood #naijawedding #nigerianfood #nigerianwedding #naijamua #nigeriamua #ASUUstrike #OurMumuDonDo #naijalifemagazine #NotTooYoungToRun #ENDSARS #naijaboy #lagosfashion #kano #lagos #abuja #portharcourt #yobe #ikoyi #benincity #naijafashion #madeinaba #nigerians #fuelscarcity

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) has commenced a two weeks warning strike.

The statement issued by Biodun Olaniran, chairman of ASUU, and Toyin Abegunrin, secretary of ASUU, said its LAUTECH chapter has received approval to begin the warning strike.

The strike, which began on Wednesday, is reportedly due to a backlog of unpaid salaries of up to 10 months.

Owned by both Osun and Oyo states, the union signed a memorandum of action in February to suspend an eight-month strike after both state governments committed to properly fund the university.

Now, people are placing the allegation of disobeying court orders at the foot of the immediate past DG of DSS. The question is, did the DSS single-handedly disobey court orders without recommendation from above? Who sued Dasuki? Who sued El Zak Zaky? Is it the DSS or the Federal government?
Lawal Daura should have been relieved of his duties a long time ago. The fact that he was sacked when the President is not around poses more questions rather than answers. #nigerian #naija #buhari #naijafood #naijawedding #nigerianfood #nigerianwedding #naijamua #nigeriamua #ASUUstrike #OurMumuDonDo #naijalifemagazine #NotTooYoungToRun #ENDSARS #naijaboy #lagosfashion #kano #lagos #abuja #portharcourt #ikoyi #benincity #naijafashion #madeinaba #nigerians #fuelscarcity

On the 242 Billion Naira Election Budget... When I saw the news on TV in the morning, it didn't even strike a
nerve. Probably because there's a sub conscious demand of free, fair
and credible elections. Before you say 'mere', don't forget elections
present power to the people. Oh, if only our elections are really
elections!
If the 242billion Naira will guarantee institutionionalised free, fair
and credible elections, then I may have given it a nod. But when you
consider the state of the nation, you discover that there are more
pressing issues to devote huge sums of money to. From security to the
health sector to a tattered Educational sector that runs an 'expired
curriculum', plenty needs a breath of funds.
A close look at the breakdown of the budget shows huge funds
designated to the police among other security agencies and you have
the feeling that the backward militarisation of our elections is not
ending anytime soon...
