With the school holidays fast approaching, here at Smokey HQ we thought we could offer up some travel inspiration if you are yet to get anything booked in. 1/10 - CORFU, GREECE We love all of the Greek Islands, but there is something about Corfu that keeps drawing us back. This particular Island has been made more popular in recent years thanks to the ITV show The Durrell’s. Corfu is long and thin in shape, so is excellent for exploring by car, with resorts such as Sidari and Kassiopi at the very top, and Party Town Kavos right down on the very south tip of the island. You will find a brilliant Waterpark; ‘Aqualand’ in the middle of the Island on the east side in Agios Loannis. Don’t do what Mrs Smokey did and fall flat onto your ankle and spend the rest of your holiday on crutches. Be warned some surfaces may be slippery when wet. Corfu Town is very pretty and well worth a visit.
Food wise, for a quick & cheap meal ‘on the go’, you can’t go wrong with ‘Gyros’. Pork or chicken (or both) with salad and tzatziki (garlic and cucumber yogurt dip) served in a warm pitta bread with a few chips tucked in for a tasty crunch. Of course, it goes without saying, all the seafood is delicious, our best holiday meal ever was a Seafood Platter in a 'Mamma Mia' style blue & white tavern overlooking the sea with a carafe of chilled rose. If you can find it on a menu, give ‘pastitsio’ a try; a baked pasta dish, similar to a Greek lasagne with lamb mince and béchamel sauce. For all you non-meat eaters; look out for ‘spanakopita’ (spinach and feta filo pie.) Found in all good bakeries and perfect for breakfast. ️
