Feeling lost in motherhood?
Tune in to @studio5ksl as @sharaparkerpark and I discuss this issue than many moms face.
One reason for losing our sense of ourselves as people when we become mothers is that motherhood IS a permanent identity shift. Once you become a mother, you never un-become a mother. No matter what happens to your children, or how old they get. Because it’s such a shift, it can feel like it takes over and changes our WHOLE SELF. It can feel like there is nothing else left of our previous self.
This isn’t true.
Motherhood is a new role and identity, and it certainly changes a lot of things, but we are still our core selves.
Sometimes we need to remember that and allow ourselves to focus on and be in touch with the parts of ourself that aren’t a mother.
This is positive and healthy.
No one is just ONE thing.
When you feel defined by just ONE thing, you legitimately feel lost because you are not that simple.
You are a wonderful, complex, unique human.
Who is also a mother.
It’s not “I’m a mother OR I’m my own person.” It’s “I am my own person AND I’m a mother.”
