It looks like Summer is coming early this year, and like the vibrant Sun that dominates this oh-so-Yang season, Summer also brings in the Fire Element in TCM and Shiatsu Therapy. The Fire Element expands upwards and outwards with Joy and enthusiasm!
This extra Fire means that excess Heat can get trapped inside the body during Summer and cause a red face and eyes, rashes, sleeplessness and irritability, but it is so easy to cool down simply by eating the vast array of fresh fruits and vegetables available during the wonderful Summer season. Lightly steaming vegetables is a great way to keep the cooling element present and if you are BBQ'ing, try marinating your food as another option for keeping that internal thermostat down.
Avoid eating too much raw food, refined and greasy food and iced drinks as these all weaken the digestion and will make you feel tired and sluggish when nature is encouraging us all to be active and spontaneous!
