Today’s article’s gonna be slightly boring, however, it’s for the real fans of Popovich and wanna know his history. Okey let’s start.
What is “Gregg Popovich” represented for in your mind? Umm.. well, he is a one of great coaches in the NBA, however, how did he become a basketball coach? and how did he turn into such an admirable coach in the NBA？ Gregg was born in 1949 and started to build relationship with basketball with joining the Biddy basketball when he was 11 years old(1960) and graduated from United Sate Air Force Academy in 1970. During his college career, Gregg played basketball for four seasons here, in the second year, he was named captain and leading scorer in the team. In 1973, it’s a his first year of being a coach in the Air Force Academy as an assistant coach for 6 years, in addition, during this period of coaching time, he went to study Master of Physical education and sports science at the University of Denver. In 1979, he was named the head coach of Pomona-Pitzer’s men’s team. Within this 9 years of coaching Pomona-Pitzer, he not only led the team to win first outright title in 68 years but as a volunteer coach at the University of Kansas under coach Larry Brown. After the 9 years at Pomona-Pitzer, from 1988 to 1992, Gregg followed Larry Brown to the Spurs as an assistant coach. After that, Gregg had been a general manager of Spurs from 1994 to1996. From 1996, it was start of tour of one of great coaches in NBA, after the Spurs had a 3-15, Gregg named himself being a head coach instead of coach Bob Hill, next year, Tim Duncan came. The scary Spurs officially appeared in the NBA. From here, everyone know what the story went. 5 times championships, 3 times coach of the year. he deserved all countless tittle he earned.
