Leaving the buddhist town of Koyasan to head towards a busy district is kinda weird but I’m having a great time. After all these vegan meals inspired by the buddhist monk’s diet, I’m ready to have a little fried food (串カツ / fried food on a stick pretty much haha) I remember fried lotus root being absolutely delicious so I’ll hunt it down. 😝
I hope that wherever you are, you are having a beautiful and peaceful day my loves ✨ (P.S. This yukata was so comfortable wow the sadness of not living in it forever 💔)

I never in a million years thought I’d be lucky enough to travel to Japan and to travel there twice? I am immensely blessed and at a loss for words. Yes I’ve worked hard. Ask anybody who knows me personally and they will tell you I spend most of my time at work. And it’s in moments like these, sitting down, reminiscing, that I realize that I work hard so that I get to experience snippets of existence like these. Daigoji Temple. The peace and quiet minus the cicada singing loudly and the sound of our tired foot steps. But it’s worth it and I’m thankful and I will never get tired of discovering new things.
All of this to say that I am thankful and that I hope that you get to experience such feelings as well. 🙏🏼✨💗

My headache is bad right now but I had a meal next to beautiful flowers, was served by polite and wonderful women and got to enjoy a delicious earl grey in a cool area that is not 45 degrees. I am so blessed and thankful even when my body gives up on me.
I walked for 4 hours in super hot weather and will probably need a nap before part two of my day. Thank you Tokyo, you are wonderful. 💗✨

Did legs today 👯‍♀️

My kids were driving me crazy again so I had to finish a bit early so I put on a band around my legs and squatted a bunch and stretched.

I’ve come to realize that it’s better for me to cut the workout short so I can stretch rather than skip stretching. Way less #DOMS (sore muscles) that way!!!

Me today. Foam rolled today because my legs were KILLING me & had 2 naps because I don’t fée that great. 🦊 is probably fighting Hand Foot Mouth Disease which I think is the 3rd time this year? It doesn’t hit us hard thankfully. He only has a fever. .

I’m not gonna lie, there are reasons why I’ve been MIA for the past few weeks. Outside of going through my solar and lunar return, I’ve also been battling anxiety and an ongoing debate within myself. I saw on spiritual twitter a discourse about how people can’t be healers if they are drinking alcohol and it really angered me. I sat down in meditation to wonder about why it made me feel this way and I guess it came back down to this idea of perfection that people are seeking and expecting out of you on social medias. I’m never gonna be a perfect vegan, I’m also never gonna be a perfect human as I am flawed, always have been. This idea that you cannot help people heal if you are drinking made me sick to my stomach. My own battles do not keep me from helping others. It’s always been my mission to help people feel good, to help them heal, because I was so unsatisfied and depressed and lonely myself that I didn’t want anyone to ever go through the same feelings. I’ve always known myself to be a healer but these people seemed to say that I am not worthy of helping others if I am not fully healed myself. And it made me think and wonder about social media and how I possibly cannot be myself if I will be judged for it. But I decided to be truthful and to let you know, once again, that although I am flawed and have not fully healed all my wounds, that I will always aim to help others. Even if I am still drinking, even if I still hate myself sometimes, it does not mean that I can’t help you see the beauty within yourself. I hope you understand where I’m coming from and I hope I will not anger any of you.

After running for 30 minutes almost everyday, I’m realizing that jogging can be hard on the body, and especially on the joints. So it is important to also consider a low-impact workout regime. By doing a low-impact workout, we get the benefits of traditional exercise without encouraging or perpetuating injury. The low-impact workout I picked is cycling 🚴‍♀️ It’s nice to cycle on your lunch break with a view on your office 😂

My motto for the day bc early mornings with kids when it isn’t my choice is soul crushing. .
The day has been perfectly fine despite my unexpected early morning. It’s been good thanks to the family around me loving my kids so I could nap. Basically that’s been the entire weekend: other people loving my kids so I could workout and nap and have a mama-vacation.
.
We’re off to a work conference - where my husband and I met 9 years ago (and got married 2 days after the end, 7 years ago). It’s a super family friendly org so they even provide childcare for the working parents!
.
I did a version of arms today... I’m getting bored of BBG arms these days. I’m enjoying dumbbell exercises for arms much better these days. .
Looking forward to seeing colleagues from all over the country and seeing if I’ll make my workouts work despite the chaos. I’m not going to let myself get anxious about how to get it done, but do what I can. .

Did legs this morning because we’ll be sitting in the car for like 9h. We’re heading to @willyversteeg’s family farm near Waterloo, ON. .
We do this trip a couple times a year and every time it’s a bit different despite us doing the same stops. Each time the boys are a bit older which makes it sometimes easier and sometimes harder. These days 🐻 hates being in his car seat for that long. Here’s to hoping he naps a lot instead of crying🤞🏻🙏🏻

So, I’ve been talking a lot about running lately but weight training is as important as cardio. First of all, there are major health and fitness benefits of lifting weights.

1. You’ll torch more body fat (especially belly fat)
2.Your muscles will look more defined

I’ve been MIA lately due to a sick leave, but I’m back stronger than ever. I decided to run 30 minutes a day every week day during lunch.

Half an hour may not seem like enough time to train, but a 30-minute window is all you need if you want to improve your health.

1. You’ll burn fat

Running for just 15-30 minutes will kick-start your metabolism and see you burn fat. It's so much better to think, 'I have 30 minutes, so I'm going to get a quick run in' than, 'I only have half an hour, so I won't bother’, which is SO easily done.

2. You’ll feel happy

You'll release all those wonderful endorphins and feel better for that quick run. Often, a quick blast is much more beneficial than a long run, as you avoid the post-run tiredness and it makes you feel alive and revitalised. You will also feel much more accomplished for making the effort to go. A quick run is a great way to de-stress.

3. You’ll recover quickly

30 minutes of intense exercise (for example, HIIT) or a normal run for 30 minutes doesn't overstretch and overuse your muscles, making you at risk of injury.

4. You’ll blast those calories

Running for 30 minutes will guarantee you a minimum of 200-500 calories burned. That means a 30-minute run, whatever your speed, pace or ability, will really help your weight-loss goals.

5. You’ll sleep peacefully

A minimum of 30 minutes running a day aids a restful night’s sleep. Running can also significantly reduce anxiety and can help you cope with depression in a healthy way, which is often a cause of insomnia.

6. You’ll define those muscles

30 minutes of running is excellent at defining those muscles!

Just finished a @fitnessblender HIIT for #bbgweek20 and finishing up with a smoothie. This is my smoothie jam these days. So far this is the best vegan protein powder I’ve tried bc it’s fermented it doesn’t irritate my sensitive stomach. .
I’ve learned that since having to go dairy free it’s really hard to meet my protein goals and so I have to add hemp hearts and actually work at finding protein. Which is partly why I don’t drink almond milk (except in smoothies) bc it only has 1g of protein per cup. Oat milk has 4 which is one of the better more available non-soy options. .

I still SUPER suck at pushups. I wonder if it has to do with my weird over-extendable shoulders. Or I’m just not consistent enough at trying to work at pushups? I had to modify every instance of pushups and I certainly did NOT do the decline pushups. I think I’m getting weaker 🤔😕

This week’s #100strongchallenge is to share a fitness myth we believed and what we know now. .
😴 the biggest myth I believed for my entire life until last year was that I would be fine if I didn’t exercise. I didn’t consider myself particularly sedentary despite having an office job and not being athletic.

I started BBG after baby2 🐻 because I wanted to lose the baby weight from both kids and I’ve been so surprised that it changed my life as much as it did! I didn’t know I would actually become a better wife and mom just because I started exercising. I could carry more groceries + Kids which is key since I live in a 2nd floor walk-up. My stress and frustration with toddlers was now channeled in a constructive way. I felt better and learned to eat better as a result.

I’m so grateful to have people who have been journeying alongside me this whole time. There are so many moms who inspire me to keep going and not give up when it’s so hard. @bbg.momof4 is one of those ladies. Her name says it all: she has 4 boys, works, and is still crushing her BBG day after day.

I woke up today feeling so blessed and energized. The flux of energy that has been surrounding me for the past weeks has been nothing but positive and eye opening. Teaching yoga on Friday opened my heart once more and made me realize that I am myself and I am whole when I am helping others heal. The answer has been here forever but my eyes were shut. I just wanna say that I’m grateful. That it’s possible to get better and that you *will* get better. I love you.
