We decided to go to Valley of the Gods after reading that it had been designated a national monument so recently that no management plan or infrastructure had been established. We found a 16-mile dirt road through a landscape similar to the nearby Monument Valley, but with only three other cars instead of 300. As part of Bears Ears National Monument, Valley of the Gods is at risk from the current administration's recommendation to reduce the size of the monument. There aren't many places in the country where you can see a landscape like this without a single other human being. Let's hope politics don't spoil it.
