A very big public access day for this little pup! He went on his first train ride to the center of Belfast where we met up with his friend Eira (a guide dog puppy - @raisingeira_gd).
We headed to St. George’s market which was bustling with people and everything you can imagine was on the ground. Then we headed to some shops in a mall like setting and he rode his first glass elevator (aka “lift” - we are working on our terminology...). Suddenly he became a crazy hyper little man out of absolutely nowhere and grabbed his leash in his mouth and held it to show me, just like he does his bringsel - it was very sudden so I checked my blood sugar and I was 78! We practiced holding his actual bringsel in a *calm* and appropriate manner, and then he had his duck neck as a reward for a low alert in public.
We then went to Starbucks to have a cuppa (no idea if that can be used when not actually drinking tea but I’m giving it a shot 😉) where he settled quite nicely - other than a few times I thought he potentially could be alerting and he was in fact just needy. Then we went into the Apple store so Beni could practice walking on glass stairs that Eira and her human found are perfect for training! Then we went to the Christmas market and practiced heeling in crowds and not obsessing over pigeons.
While the dogs had been snacking with their rewards all day, the humans were hungry so next we had lunch and the pups settled under the table together. Then we rode the train back home and the second we stepped off Beni grabbed his *actual* bringsel all on his own, so I checked and I was 81mg/dL! A full day for both of us but excellent practice and exposure, and always fun to do with a friend! #MahmWhyWeMeetUpWithFwiend #JustToNotPlayWithFwiend #IDoesntUnderstandDis #DisJustSeemsWude #YouDontInviteSumoneOverToDenIgnoreDem #DidntYourMahmEverTeachYouManners #ITinkYouAllIsConfused #belfast #christmasmarket #stgeorgesmarket #workingdogs #puppiesintraining #assistancedog #intraining #beniofbelfast #belfast #servicedog #diabeticalertdog
