“People are prettiest when they talk about something they really love with passion in their eyes...” •
I saw some posts circulating this weekend about whether powerlifting is a sport or a hobby, and I think the consensus was its a passion.
This smile on my face is because at 25 when I was finally finding myself, I found powerlifting. It wasnt as main stream as it is now, not as many women, but I loved it instantly. I loved always pushing to beat myself because back then I wasn’t beating anyone else but I was always getting better. The passion caught fire and here we today, just 2 years later, immersed in powerlifting, even if there were no competitions and no one watching, no instagram or facebook I would still be a powerlifter, I would still be embracing the suck and kicking my own ass day after day. The people you connect with that will help you be better even than themselves, that will give you the shirt of their back or the wrap off their knee, everyone is a misfit and everyone belongs. At the end of the day this isnt about if you’re wearing the latest (insert power gear apparel line here) release and the newest equipment, its not about how the likes, its not about if you won best lifter, its about being there, giving it your all you all, leaving your blood, sweat and tears (and sometimes pee) on the platform and coming back for more.
