I've been really pissed off by small talk lately. It's the worst way to get to know someone and it's the worst way to deepen your relationship with anyone.
Smalltalk gets us nowhere. There are very few cookie cutter answers and reactions deemed acceptable by society. I know I use pointless smalltalk 99% percent of the time to start any conversation, even with the people closest to me. I bet it's a similar number for you.
But that's soooo bad. Because questions like "How are you?" Are actually extremely important. It's a disgrace to place them in front of a conversation like an obligatory appetiser, with the expectation of hearing nothing but "I'm fine, thanks!". No more.
I'll only ask what I REALLY want to know. And I'm making an effort to answer in a way, that is 100 % me. Unfiltered.
I know it's going to be hard. I know I will slip up.
No more speaking to fill silence.
I'm encouraging you to do the same.
