It's freezing cold in the north, it was time to enjoy the Rocky Patel The Edge Candela Toro and I prepared for the first smoke on our new balcony. The almost luminous oily green Candela wrapper lit up the dark and was a easy pick from todays delivery from @kindcigars. The wrapper itself has subtile seams and the whole outside is really slick. The draw is light and it produces big clouds of light silky volatile smoke. It's rich and grassy, with tones of pine wood, peanuts, rosemary and some white pepper. Medium bodied and evolves calmly without any bitterness. In the second third some darker oak wood, hazelnuts and increasing grassyness are the main changes. A nice complexity takes form with a palette of very balanced flavours. It needs a little adjustment but the construction is overall satisfying. As most know, I love pairing cigars with tea and this one is excellent for a nice cup of fruity black tea. The tea brought out the very first hints of dried cherries from the palette, the peak of complexity is now near. In the last third some more cherries and oak show up, some ginger marks the subtile increasing strength that after some time made this lovely calming peppery ancho chili finish. What a great way to light up this cold and foggy thursday.
