This is not the prettiest zero waste kit you’re going to see on Instagram. But it’s one you should take a good look at. Instagram can be great for getting the word out about zero waste initiatives. But as we all know, it’s not always honest. Not every ZW kit, kitchen, bathroom and lifestyle is going to look like it belongs to a magic earth fairy. Infact, it shouldn’t. Your things are going to take a beating, not everything is going to match, and in some cases, there may even be some *gasp* plastic. But the point is to use what you have first, and slowly replace or use things you get second hand or from friends, family and coworkers. Don’t feel pressure from the photography focused Instagram accounts to have something that looks like perfection. You don’t need the latest tools or fancy gadgets. You need functional, versatile and useful things that get the job done. This is my to-go kit. One multipurpose travel cup, a stained and well-loved napkin I made from cutting an old dish towel into two, some bamboo cutlery, and a @lunchbots that I found at value village. That’s it, that’s all.
