Some of you have asked me to write a book, and I will. And, I have. If you are traveling to the Big Bend, this guide book will be invaluable. If you are not, maybe you should ask yourself what you are doing with your life, but I hope you read the book and enjoy it nonetheless.
This book began a couple of years ago when I moved out here and people began asking me what's good and where should they go. Then I realized that I was typing a lot of the same things over and over again. So I wrote it continuously in a live doc as I explored and experienced more and have shared parts of it with many of you who have ventured out here along the way.
Working now with @basecampterlingua, we decided to take the book to the next level and add all kinds of insight, advice, dos and don'ts, and every local business we could think of. We want you to visit, understand and respect the land as you enjoy it, support our local community, and have a badass time doing it.
I'm also happy to tell you that this guide book will feature a lot of my photography and a few photos from some of my favorite photographers, plus a section on protecting our dark skies by TXPW Ranger, Amber Harrison, another on survival tips from the Chihuahuan Desert Wizard, Marcos Paredes. AND a foreword by the legendary Dan Sholly, NPS Park Ranger extraordinaire. All that layed out and wrapped up pretty by my bff @oakleybanana!
Also, important to note that the image above is a conceptual one we're using to create what will be the final cover, and one major change will be the subtitle, which will refer to "Terlingua, Texas & the Big Bend" instead of the other way around as it appears above. Because the Big Bend is on both sides of the Río, and we wanted to make sure we acknowledged that up front. The longest section in the book covers a visit to my favorite town in all of Mexico, Boquillas del Carmen across the Río in Coahuila.
If you are interested in the book or any other of the wild and fun stuff we're getting into out here, sign up for the newsletter at basecampterlingua.com (link in my bio) and follow @basecampterlingua and we'll let you know as soon as it's ready. Salud!
