After watching the @crankworx @world_enduro guys and girls speed up to Micro Climate I decided to go one further on my #gtsanction and give Dark Crystal a go. ♂️♀️
I'd never done this trail before but I had heard nothing but good things about it, so I was excited to see what all the hype was about.
. . . . . . . .
The climb followed the first stage of the #ews climb up to #MicroClimate, and that was the most difficult section to go up. It's a steep access road, with a few loose rocks, and I was dripping with sweat when I reached the top.
Once you get to the Excellerator Chair though, things are not as bad as they first seem. After the gruelling climb, you might have second thoughts about going further, but you can do it.
There are a few more slightly steep sections, but you can take your time and you will be at Crystal chair within 10-15mins.
Then it's time for your reward, the long #darkcrystal downhill.
At first, if you are used to whistlers surrounding #xc trails you won't be surprised with what you see. Smooth rock rolls and a comfortable path to follow. If you are an advanced rider, capable in single black trails, with the occasional double black, there isn't anything to be concerned about at this point, and too be fair, for most of the trail you will be fine. There is a clear sign when things start to change up and get a bit gnarly though.
After a capable but steep rock roll feature you are immediately met by another rock roll feature with an awkward drop at the end of it. After that though things get a bit slippy and loamy, but @100percent fun. This section reminded me allot of Delayed Fuse in the bike park. Clearly this #xctrail was the inspiration for it.
There's a few small uphill root sections that might catch you after a wet day, so keep that in mind, but towards the bottom you are rewarded with a #beautifulbc view of a waterfall, before coming out onto another easy access road at the end.
After that, you can either end your adventure and go left, or go right and head up Yummy Nummy. #redpillorbluepill
All in all well worth the trip and the hype, I'm sure I'll be lapping this again soon.
