Photo by @TimLaman // A male Anna’s Hummingbird pauses among some aloe flowers in his constant quest for nectar. This is one of the most common hummingbird species in California, and I love capturing images of them to see and enjoy the remarkable detail of these tiny fast birds. You can only see the rose-colored throat and head, for example, if you view from in front of the bird. Lets celebrate wild birds in 2018 – the #YearoftheBird! Follow me @TimLaman to see hummingbirds and more wild bird images throughout the year.
#TL_WildlifePhotoTips: I made this shot at 1/1000 sec but notice how blurred the wings are, because they are moving so fast. The great thing about hummingbirds is that when they hover, even though their wings are moving very fast, they can hold their head amazingly still, giving you a chance to get your shot in focus. I like the wing blur to give a sense of motion, and prefer shooting in natural light like this as opposed to using flash.
