TIP NO. 6: Pimp your email address.
Most hosting packages come with email storage and the tech magic to give you a more or less extensive @yourcomain.com email account.
The really clever packages sport catch-all functions and several email addresses within one inbox, so you can specify where your client found you without you asking: use [email protected] to collect your contact form messages, firstname.lastname@example.org your professional address to converse with clients and [email protected] to rule all your social media accounts.
Consider individual folders to help you focus on relevant messages when you lack the time to go through all your mail.
Now, I know you love your Gmail account and it’s handy and you used it for everything. Consider switching to your domain email anyway. The air of professionalism you’ll convey will go a very long way, especially when your client “meets” you through referral or via your online presence (success!). If you were out there, searching for a translator, editor, copywriter, how excited would you be to work with email@example.com? (if this is YOUR email address, congrats. I’d be happy to chat over coffee, on me, anytime.) My point: • Make the most of your resources, including your website hosting package. • Tell it from the mountains that you are a professional and in it to win it. • Invest in your business: it inspires clients to invest (trust and money) as well.
Tough love? Yes. But we want to see you WIN!
Your homework: View your online presence through your clients’ eyes, your existing and potential business partners. Have a trusted colleague do the same. Evaluate your areas of improvement and create a to-do list. Tackle that list step by step, polishing your online persona to a shine.
Makes sense? Lets hear it!
