A Simple Favor, 2018 • 8.5/10
'A Simple Favor,' a stylish post-modern film noir directed by Paul Feig is packed to the brim with twists and turns. It's suave, twisted, funny, thrilling, slick, and above all else, a whole load of fun! From start to finish you'll constantly be hit with curveball's, jokes, profanity galore from a very sassy-martini-obsessed Blake Lively, and a half a dozen vlog's from the overly-sorry-mommy-vlogger Anna Kendrick.
My favourite aspect of the film revolves around the script and it's snappy dialogue, every line felt well prepared and perfectly executed with just the right amount of venom, that, alongside the delivery and chemistry from both lead actresses gave this film an added edge. Blake Lively is on top-form here, stealing every single scene she's in, but thats not to say Anna Kendrick didn't absolutely kill it with probably my favourite performance from her to date. Her performance is multifaceted, decorated with ornate detail and wonderfully honed takes and it's utterly magnificent to watch.
All in all, 'A Simple Favor' is far from a simple film, it boasts strong lead performances, beautiful shots, suave costumes, snappy dialogue, a brilliant screenplay, edge of your seat thrills, and to put it quite simply, some good-old entertainment! Must See!
